Subject: This sucks, man.

OK folks. Time to stop complaining and give thanks. If I can do it, anybody can. For the great jobs you have. You work in a wonderful, creative business. You come up with ideas. Like a pipe wrench to a plumber, your brain is the tool of your trade. Every day, you prop your dogs on the desk, throw your head back, and you ponder. You talk about movies and music. You drink coffee made by a trained professional, maybe nosh on a gourmet ho-ho. You take long, working lunches. You collaborate. You laugh way more than the typical worker. You’ve got it all figured out, you world-beater you. Even though your dad hasn’t a doggone clue what it is you do 8 hours every day, he knows your job has something to do with the capitalist system in which we all thrive, and that he understands. You go to LA to “shoot a spot.” You express yourself. You display passion. Sure, you cave like a melted popsicle when the client shoots down your ideas, but you stamp your feet and yell in internal meetings. You make art. You solve different problems every day. You order pizza or sushi or Indian or Thai, depending on your body type. You invent games to amuse yourself, mostly involving balls. You talk fondly about your kids. During those rare moments when boredom sets, you doodle tulips or caricatures or dogs (or practice your signature). You take your wonderful job home with you, where you watch the tube. Every commercial you see is either “dung” or “Goodby-ish.” You get paid to skim magazines. You meet interesting people, almost as interesting as yourself. You learn about new things everyday. You learn that “everyday” should sometimes be two words. You become smarter every day. And you get paid to do it. Lucky us. Now quit reading this useless drivel and get back to work. And smile for a change.

Have a productive day.
