WHEN SHARPIES FLY

Today’s subject: Denting the drywall.
Like perfume making, ours is a business of passion. And when the best work is getting done, tempers can flare. Lids can flip. Gaskets can blow. It’s all good. I like people with conviction. I love a good argument. I dig it when someone pounds their fist on the table or dents my drywall with a 90 mile an hour Sharpie. To me it’s like a Hallmark card. It says you care. Thirty years in the business has taught me two things for certain. One, you can’t eat like you’re 27 or you’ll be on the treadmill for days. And two, women cry more than men. Men are gutless slugs who like to yell and swear and spit loud. Women are gentler, quieter and talk about issues over lunch rather than fight it out to the bitter end. My point: We’re frail, we disagree, we’re not always right, we’re all different, we see things differently, we’re not perfect, we are the world, we are the children, and we’re all supposed to work together. Sometimes it works out peachily. Sometimes, not. What to do? Don’t take it personally. Move on. Don’t let it affect you for more than a couple hours. In the big picture of life, does it really matter if the headline is 28 pt. or 26?

Peace and love,
